If zoos are beginning to acknowledge they can’t provide for elephants adequately and humanely in captivity, then circuses must do the same.

Elephants in circuses spend up to 22 hours a day in chains, released only when they perform. They’re subjected to harsh training with whips and sharp hooks. Treating such highly intelligent and social beings like this is barbaric and must end.

It’s time Minneapolis took a stand, and joined the growing number of US cities that prohibit such mistreatment of these gentle giants in the circus.
