“On behalf of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), a
UN-affiliated animal welfare organization that represents more than 7
million concerned citizens worldwide, I urge you to enact a ban on the use
of wild animals in circuses in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

WSPA both supports and appreciates the desire for family entertainment but
firmly maintains that animal welfare must not be abandoned for the sake of
human amusement. Indeed, the Cirque de Soleil and other non-wild animal
circuses are wonderful sources of entertainment. But by relying on
elephants, lions, tigers and bears, circuses using wild animals offer
something different – animal suffering. And animal suffering is anything
but entertaining.”
