Feb, 2007- CRY educates at the Pet Expo, Minneapolis, MN

March, 2007- CRY runs 6 weeks of ads in the Southwest Journal

April, 2007- CRY and Bridges of Respect team up to give presentations at Edina High School, “Animals in Entertainment”, that bring the reality of performing animals’ lives to light for the next generation

April- October, 2007- CRY leaflets door-to-door to educate thousands of Minneapolitans about the circus issue

May, 2007- CRY teams up with Animal Sanctuary Foundation to create and print giant vinyl banners for a traveling display on Black Beauty, a cube truck. Black Beauty appears throughout the spring, summer, and fall at locations around the Twin Cities, circus demonstrations, and special events

May, 2007- CRY educates at the May Day Festival, Minneapolis, MN

May, 2007- CRY receives the support of Twin Cities’ notables, including the Archbishop Harry Flynn and theReverend Kendyl Gibbons

May, 2007- CRY holds its 3rd annual Yard Sale Fundraiser

May- August, 2007- CRY receives generous donations and grants from local and national animal protection organizations and numerous individual supporters

June, 2007- The Animal Protection Amendment is introduced at City Hall in Minneapolis. The amendment, sponsored by City Council members Ralph Remington and Cam Gordon, is written to prohibit wild animal circuses in Minneapolis

June, 2007- CRY educates at The Wildcat Sanctuary’s Dog Walk for Cats, St. Paul, MN

June, 2007- CRY educates at the Gay Pride Event in Minneapolis, MN

June, 2007- CRY and Black Beauty join forces and march in the annual Northeast Minneapolis parade, and reach thousands with our message

June, 2007- CRY presents “Animals in Entertainment” to students in the Peace Garden program, Minneapolis. This is an original presentation created by CRY to teach young people through video, lecture, and discussion, to think critically about the use of animals in entertainment

June, 2007- CRY is interviewed on Animal Wise Radio, AM 950

August- October, 2007- CRY generates dozens of media pieces about the circus issue, ranging from a front page article in the Star Tribune, radio spots on MPR and Air America, TV coverage (some pieces included behind- the -scenes video of animals in the circus) on WCCO Ch 4, KSTP Ch 5, KARE, Ch 11, and Fox 9 News, to countless letters to the editor and opinion/commentary pieces in local papers and on talk radio. Of course not all coverage was favorable, but it succeeded in communicating the idea that using animals in circuses is a controversial issue that raises ethical questions about our treatment of animals

September, 2007- CRY runs ad in Star Tribune newspaper

September, 2007- CRY coordinates the public hearing on the Animal Protection Amendment, and has local speakers lined up alongside Don Elroy from HSUS, Carol Buckley of The Elephant Sanctuary, Adam Roberts of Born Free Foundation, and Tammy Quist of The Wildcat Sanctuary

September, 2007- CRY supporters gather at City Hall to watch the City Council of Minneapolis vote on whether to prohibit wild animal circuses from performing in Minneapolis. The Council voted 7-6 to continue toallow animal circuses in town

October, 2007- CRY coordinates successful demonstrations at the Target Center, which is the location to which the Zuhrah Shrine brings their wild animal circus each year. The protests were well attended and were covered by the media

November, 2007- CRY is invited to join the group advising Minneapolis Regulatory Services on increasing animal welfare standards for the animals in the circus

December, 2007- CRY and Bridges of Respect team up to give presentations at Edina High School, “Animals in Entertainment”, that bring the reality of performing animals’ lives to light for the next generation

December, 2007- CRY continues to monitor the City of Minneapolis and the City Council’s actions regarding wild animal circuses. Regulatory Services issues its Report and Recommendations on wild animal circuses, but the Council’s Public Safety Committee’s action is postponed until Jan, 2008
